2011 came along and I am now 41. Time sure does fly as you get older. Hubby says it's a mentality. Ok, so, I keep telling myself that the world isn't spinning faster, that things are going slower, but it's NOT working. Oh well. I'll try again tomorrow.
I have a long time love affair with reading. Some people I know don't get it. I suppose it is because they can't find the time or the right story or they simply have no interest or love for this wonderful and relaxing past-time. This includes 4 of my 5 kids. 4 out of 5!! While I am grateful that the one reads, I always thought more, if not all of my kids, would inherit the same love I have for it. But what can you do? I still encourage them but I can't shove it in their face, so I'll continue to teach by example. Maybe it will catch on... one of these years!
Recently I became aware of E-readers. Electronic reading devices. I thought at first that I could never give up on my books. There is nothing like the smell of a bookstore, the sound of opening up a brand new book and hearing the cracking of the spine, or the touch of worn paper under your fingertips. How could I ever give that up?
Well I did it. My wonderful husband bought me a Nook classic on Valentine's day. This was by my request, as he doesn't read! This must be where the other 4 get it from...grrrr! Anyway, it is awesome. With limitless storage I can carry around my entire library of books in my purse. Who would have thought! I am never without a book now! Yes I still have my DTBs (dead tree books) and yes not all of my favorite author's book are available, at the moment, for this device, but I can live with that. I have taken the plunge and the water isn't cold at all. I have actually yet to purchase a book for my Nook as there are 100's of free ones available. It is beyond cool and has open the door to so many authors I don't think I would have ever found reading DTBs.
With all that said, it has inspired me to turn another corner in my crafty world. After getting my Nook I looked around for something to protect it. Wow the covers available are EXPENSIVE, some almost half the price of the device! Being the crafty person I am I though I could make my own covers/pouches/purses to protect my wee magic box! So here I am.
Boy that was long winded!
